Two in the soup for defrauding lady

Police in Oyo State have held two persons who used fake dollars to defraud a young lady of the sum of N1000. The incident occurred in the Idi-Arere area of Ibadan.
The suspects, Idowu Dada, 35, and Muyiwa Olarenwaju, were said to have been arrested in their shrine.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Udom Ekpoudom, who paraded the suspects at the police headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, they usually disguised as taxi drivers to fleece their victims of their hard-earned money.

The victim, Mrs. Bola Makinde, was said to have boarded their cab to the Challenge area of Ibadan and on the way, the suspected fraudsters convinced her that they had enough dollars in their bag she could exchange for ocal currency.

The victim was later driven to their shrine at Idi-Arere, where they further requested N50,000 from her. Smelling a rat, Mrs. Makinde alerted the police, leading to the arrest of the conmen.
Ekpoudom explained that the two suspects were arrested while two other members of the syndicate are still at large. Recovered from them were charms, fake dollars, clothes, among others.

The victim told Daily Sun that she was in the cab when a member of the syndicate drew her attention to the fake dollars in the bag, telling her that she should exchange the dollars for local currency.

"Initially, they collected N1000 from me. They later drove me to their shrine at Idi-Arere and told me that the local currency would turn to dollars. They requested N50, 000 which I promised to give to them," she said.
She continued: "I had to phone my husband. Immediately, I phoned the policemen who rounded them up."

One of the suspects, Olarenwaju, who owned up to the crime, confessed that they had been using the cab to pick unsuspecting passengers and dupe them.
He said: "We took her to our shrine to see the herbalist. The woman brought some mobile policemen to arrest us. We are four. This is my first time of engaging in this illegal business. Two members of our gang absconded."
Ekpoudom said the suspects would appear in court after investigations.
