“Chei, I am finished!” That was the lamentation of Emeka, fraudsters’ latest victim in Lagos. They came with a business proposals, got him entangled in an oath and with the fear of dying, he played along.

By the time he recovered, he was heavily indebted. He realized he has to cough out N300,000 to offset his debt. He went to the police who promptly swung into action and arrested the fraudsters.They are currently being detained at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti.

Scared of death
Emeka, a cigarette distributor at Ijanikin, Ojo Local Government, Lagos, told Saturday Sun that he played along with them because he was scared that if he failed they would kill him. According to him, in the course of his duty, he met Muyiwa, a close friend of his who told him that his friend Jide, in Cotonou was in need of a person who would be selling cigarette for him in Nigeria.

Convinced that this might be a major breakthrough for him, he accepted the idea. When Jide finally came to Nigeria, he told Emeka that before they would embark on such business, they would take an oath. Jide took him to an “Alhaji’s” house at Ijanikin for the oath taking.

Oath taking and weird happenings
The Alhaji simply known as Baba mixed some concoction, which they drank. He now told them to buy some birds, which would be used for sacrifice. “When the fowl known as “oki” was bought, Baba chanted some incantation and suddenly the fowl died. He told me that that would be my faith if I should disclose what happened in the place. Baba took the foul and flung it into a bag and suddenly the bag was filled with dollars.

I even had to check to be sure it was not filled with rags.
“ Baba asked us to bring money again to sacrifice to the gods before we would share the money. Repeatedly I was made to contribute for the sacrifice as Jide claimed he did not have money. At a point, Jide bust out that he was tired of contributing money.

He went into the secret room and touched the money. When we got into the place, we saw him sprawled on the floor with foams coming out of his mouth. Suddenly a woman appeared and told me that it has fallen on me to cure Jide. I was made to contribute again to perform a sacrifice to appease the gods. The scariest of it all was when this woman who appeared spoke my language. I was also shown a small casket which suddenly enlarged, this was the place they would bury me if I should tell any one what I saw.
