Financial crimes: EFCC educates the press
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently gave investigative journalism a boost when it organized a seminar for journalists.
The programme, which held at the Ikoyi office of the commission, was organised in conjunction with the Convention on Business Integrity, a non-governmental organisation (NGO).
The event, which was entitled: “Integrity Rating System,” had top officials of the EFCC and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) in attendance. >> more |

EFCC BUSTS 419 SYNDICATE
A 65-year-old man was among one of the suspects in the net of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for defrauding the managing director and chief executive of Nasarawa Investment and Property Development Company Limited.
The victim, Idris Bori, after myriad of gimmicks to convince him of the authenticity of the fraudsters’ claims, was eventually swindled N4, 39,900.00. This excluded 35 MTN recharge cards fraudulently collected from him. >>> more

They were said to have taken the victim, Mrs. M.A. Koyi, to a shrine located at Orisha Magodo in Isheri, Lagos to convince her that they had black money to 'wash'.

NIGERIAN FRAUDSTERS COST UK N3.75BN ANNUALLY
The United Kingdom and Nigerian Governments have been indicted for not doing enough to stop transborder financial crime.
In a report released Monday, London-based reserch group, Chatham House, said financial crime in the United Kindgom stemming from Nigeria involves "billions" of pounds but not enough is being done to stop it.

EFCC STORMS ENUGU, ARRESTS 47 WORKERS
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday stormed the premises of Rainbownet, a telecommunications company; Cosmos FM station and an automobile company, Capital City Autos, all allegedly owned by the state Governor, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani.
The raid was part of an investigation into allegations on massive corruption levelled against the governor in a series of petitions sent by some citizens to the commission.
